Two-thirds of rural Americans – 60 million people – have inadequate access to public transportation

In 1969, 42 percent of students walked or biked to school, by 2001 that number had fallen to less than 16 percent.

The federal government owns nearly 650 million acres of land – almost 30 percent of the land area of the U.S.
